Adding Ringfences

Please note that adding additional Actions over and above your monthly account allocation of actions will incur extra charges, contact your account administrator for more details.

Click the Actions option on the left sidebar.

Click the create action button in the top right corner of the resulting screen.

Give your action a name eg Home Ringfence

Click on the Action you have created to view the Action Configuration summary tab.

Note that there are 4 tabs available in the action detail view, all these tabs need to be correctly configured before an action will work correctly

  • Configuration
  • Devices
  • Conditions
  • Outputs

Configuration Tab

You can click the edit button to

  • Change the name of the Action
  • Add descriptive details to the action
  • Enable or Disable the action

Devices Tab

You can click the add device button to an existing device to your action.

Type in part of the name that you gave your device to search for it.

Each device needs to have its own ringfence action (ie. each ringfence action can ONLY be used for one device)

Click the add device button to save your changes

Conditions Tab

This is where we add the conditions that need to be met to trigger your action.

Example 1 : we will add a ringfence that sends an alert if the device leaves a 200 mt wide circular ringfence, and a reset rule that resets the ringfence when the device returns to inside the ringfenced area.

To add this ringfence you will need

  • the Latitude and Longitude coordinates for the centre of your ringfence eg -43.530934 172.636510
  • the radius of the ringfence eg 100 mt (the distance from the centre point of the ringfence that will trigger your alert)

In the Trigger Condition section click the edit button then click the add Geofence button

  • in the first dropdown box select "Latitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "Longitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "outside circular geofence"
  • in the next dropdown box add your Latitude coordinate eg -43.530934
  • in the next dropdown box add your Longitude coordinate eg 172.636510
  • in the next dropdown box add your ringfence radius eg 100 (recommended minimum = 40 mt)
  • click the save button
  • click the locks on trigger option to set it to Yes

In the Unlock Condition section click the edit button then click the add Geofence button

  • in the first dropdown box select "Latitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "Longitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "inside circular geofence"
  • in the next dropdown box add your Latitude coordinate eg -43.530934
  • in the next dropdown box add your Longitude coordinate eg 172.636510
  • in the next dropdown box add your ringfence radius eg 100 (recommended minimum = 40 mt)
  • click the save button

Skip example 2 and set up the outputs tab (unless you want to add additional ringfences for this device).

Example 2 : you can add as many ringfences as you like for each device so we now will add an additional ringfence that sends an alert if the device leaves a 80 mt wide circular ringfence at a different location, and a reset rule that resets this ringfence when the device returns to inside the ringfenced area.

To add this ringfence you will need

  • the Latitude and Longitude coordinates for the centre of your ringfence eg -43.605056 172.711552
  • the radius of the ringfence eg 160 mt (the distance from the centre point of the ringfence that will trigger your alert)

In the Trigger Condition section click the edit button then click the add Geofence button

  • note that a second ringfence has opened for editing, make sure the AND condition is selected (between the first ringfence and the second ringfence)
  • in the first dropdown box select "Latitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "Longitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "outside circular geofence"
  • in the next dropdown box add your Latitude coordinate eg -43.605056
  • in the next dropdown box add your Longitude coordinate eg 172.711552
  • in the next dropdown box add your ringfence radius eg 160 (recommended minimum = 40 mt)
  • click the save button
  • click the locks on trigger option to set it to Yes

In the Unlock Condition section click the edit button then click the add Geofence button

  • note that a second ringfence has opened for editing, make sure the OR condition is selected (between the first ringfence and the second ringfence)
  • in the first dropdown box select "Latitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "Longitude"
  • in the next dropdown box select "inside circular geofence"
  • in the next dropdown box add your Latitude coordinate eg -43.605056
  • in the next dropdown box add your Longitude coordinate eg 172.711552
  • in the next dropdown box add your ringfence radius eg 160 (recommended minimum = 40 mt)
  • click the save button
